About Me

Artist | Pattern Designer | Arts & Health Practitioner

My name is Emma Jayne Jones, and I am a mixed-media artist and surface pattern designer based in Cardiff, United Kingdom, where I live with my husband and two sons.
I have a BA Hons degree in Fashion & Textile Design from De Montfort University, Leicester, and I am currently studying for an MA in Arts, Health & Wellbeing at the University of South Wales; a course that's become the space where my two passions meet: a creative practice rooted in nature, and a growing interest in how art and personal creativity can support people's health and wellbeing. I'm still in the middle of exploring that connection, and this course is where that exploration is happening.
I create mixed media artwork, prints, and digital pattern designs that translate my representation of the natural world around me. I'm inspired by natural, organic shapes, textures, and colours, and my work often contains an abstract element. My style is diverse, and I like to work with a mix of traditional and digital techniques, including sketching, painting, mark-making, collage, print, and textiles, alongside digital methods such as iPad and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Before starting this MA, I'd been developing my skills within surface pattern design, building a portfolio of nature-inspired designs for use on products such as fabrics, home decor, stationery, greeting cards, and accessories. Rather than two separate strands, I see this design work and my arts, health and wellbeing practice as one practice: the same eye for pattern and place that shapes my studio work is what draws me to this field, and each is teaching me something the other couldn't on its own.
Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss how I can help with your business or creative project, or if you'd like to know more about my arts, health and wellbeing work.
